Yep, I Gave A Public Talk
by mavie incan we see the fulfillment of this today?
these are just a few of the prophecies recorded in the bible which have seen their fulfillment.
another evidence of divine authorship can be found in the practical guidance the bible gives.

OMG! OMG! I have some good news!
by erynw infinally, right.
ok. i know this jw lady that i talk to.
she doesn't know i am an exjw.

The reason you where able to do this was because she does not know your history with the JWs.
It is kind of a dirty trick to play, but can prove very successful. The JW wants the religion to look good before the outsider. When it begins to fail they can start to crack. -

Political leanings of most JWs
by B_Deserter indespite the fact that witnesses claim to be politically neutral, i've seen a lot of political opinion being spread around by the r-n-f. it's all been pretty much anti-bush sentiment.
how have your experiences been?

I knew a die hard liberal who was JW (i'm pretty sure he actually went out and voted for Kerry). But I also have known people who seemed to have sided with Bush and his war.
I think a major thing to realize is that most JWs seem to be quite uninformed as to what is actually going on in the world, so their opinions in these things are really simplistic and naive. -

Looks pretty funny
As far as economics go I basically think it is an issue of resources. If people have the extra capital they will do all kinds of crazy things with it.
Even with the "debt" that Amercians are getting into will have it's limits. Eventually it won't be so easy to get credit and people will make do with what they have.
With that said, the Holidays are absolutely absurd in the US. -

What Can You Say to Jehovah's Witnesses Lame Excuses ?
by flipper ini noticed jg nat started a thread kind of similar, but dealing with elders .
my wife helped me come up with this thread with some good ideas here.
there are a few gems that witnesses use as excuses, phraseology they use to make excuses for their beliefs.

Humans are just imperfect- they make mistakes
How many mistakes would the Watchtower have to make before God chose another organization?
Jehovah's just cleaning out his organization
If so why did Jehovah allow 'honest hearted ones' watching TV to see something negative about 'the truth'. Why did he let it go public?
Wait on Jehovah
Yet JWs tell all the people they meet in their ministry not to wait for reform in their church/religion but to quite and join theirs. Very hypocritical.
Satan controls the Media
You wouldn't be saying that if there was a positive news report on JWs. Why not discuss the facts about the news story rather than simply write people off that say things we don't like.
The holy spirit directed it , so it must be right
Since you have not seen the Holy Spirit and have nothing more than a 'feeling' that he is around you have a very weak argument. Why not examine what is true on its own merit rather than relying upon vague things
Where else will we go ?
If your house was burning down would you require somebody to give you a new one before you got out of the one that is burning? Let the Watchtower stand on it's own and then if it is proven false or true you can talk about the place where you will go.
The light got brighter
Changing a generic belief is one thing, telling people they need to suffer and possibly die for a belief that eventually is thrown into the garbage can is morally disgusting. -

Joel Engardio JW essay on NPR yesterday (link)..decent piece actually...
by M.J. in...but i think his conclusions on tolerance are contrary to what jws practice themselves!

My wife played that for me yesterday.
I think he just clueless and isn't well versed in what he is talking about. His attitude seems to be "my mother who is in a strange religion never treated me as bad as those horrible Christian conservatives...." (something he could pander to well on NPR). He also seems to have been lucky in his experience with JWs (never was baptized and never had a "watchtower father" over him). Most of us would agree that he would be singing a different tune if he had grown up in a JW environment where his mother followed all the JW rules (like making your kid get baptized young).
One of the things that makes a great documentary filmmaker is the ability to see beyond your own personal point of view and learn as you go along. It is clear that he has no desire to look beyond his own experience. He views himself as kind of a "JW Expert" of sorts and to be honest it seems like he is trying to build a career on it (plugged his movie in a "i believe" segment!!!). -

Hi all....wow
by -Tank inhello folks.
i posted one topic in the "relationships" section of this board, but just wanted to say a few words, and introduce myself, i am tank.
i was just curious, this is a jw board, i was expecting to find 80% of the members, or posts, to be of diehard, hardcore jw's, trying to preach there beliefs or there views, but yet, almost every thread i read has to do with someone leaving, already left, or a story of when they left, nonetheless, all the stories lead away from the jw religion.

I was only 15 when I got involved, but there where things that I noticed that didn't make sense. I could not figure out how all these people "believed" the same thing on their own since it appeared they where just being told what to believe. Of course the Elder I studied with at the time helped me bury those doubts and I went on to be a JW for 7 years.
Good job in figuring this out early. You saved yourself from a lot of hell. -

i just confirmed the "generation" change from another forum in portuguese.

Quite absurd, but to be expected I suppose. The last explanation was so confusing that very few JWs 'got' it.
What they have set in is a teaching that cannot die out over time. This teaching is now set and will not have to come up against the forces of time. -

Are the Creative days 7000 years long?
by Steve J inwhere does the idea that the creative days of the genesis account were 7,000 years long come from?.
genesis doesn't suggest that they were specific time periods, but shows that one "day" extended into others.
i feel that the clue is in the words; "and there was an evening and there was a morning, a first day.

I believe it comes out of the JWs "day for a year" rule that they created.
